This is one example of the tools and ideas in Planning to win, the unseen side of Coaching and Building successful sports programme by Kevin Sivils. This will guide us next year and is worth a kindle download if you feel the need.

In it Kevin discusses the points above and so much more and it makes so much sense.
As a coach I am always conscious of the need to explain who is in which position and why and what their role is on the field but too often time and a lack of adequate planning has meant that this is poorly done.
A player needs to know at least a day before the game their role in the big picture plan for each game and how it contributes and that is just to address point one of the 5 above.

All of these skills are teachable yet we do not do it. Time and players committed to the task and the programme  (assuming there is one) are the basic issues at hand.

Next year team, we are preparing like never before. We want to honour 2014 where we create history for football at Kavanagh College in our 25th anniversary honouring the 5 schools that have contributed to Kavanagh since 1871 here in Dunedin.

WE NEED student and adult VOLUNTEERS from the school community to support our goals including:
  • Video skills to capture the game for editing for KTV/Web, and the season from first training camp to the final game at National Tournament.
  • Statistics for information gathering to ensure we remain on target and are continually improving,
  • Media to write and express the teams exploits on the field and development off it including radio commentary for live podcasting
  • Supporters - for their voice, encouragement and desire to be part of something exciting!
  • Fundraisers to enable all the activities are available that add to the success of the season.
  • (all of these add real value to your CV as well)
  • COMMITTED PLAYERS
Yes the plan is big, and the challenges greater still, we believe the contribution we can make to each other, the school in this 25th Anniversary is worthy.

See you on the field
